A bike for the boy in the park (and sibling!)

We had a wonderful response to the story of a little boy who asked for a ride on our bike in the park, which we told on Twitter today. The lad’s story isn’t for us to tell, but he’s had it tough and we want to help.

Someone said they hoped the little chap would end up with a bike of his own. We thought the same thing! Although he’s gota free ride on our cargobike any day he likes, we’d love to give him some wheels and some lessons so he can come and play in the park on a bike of his own, that fits him.

We’ve found him an Islabike at a decent price; in the good old pre-COVID days when we were both earning, we’d have just done it ourselves, but if our friends in the ‘Cycling Twitter’ community are persuaded to chip in a couple of quid, to help us do this, we will be greatly obliged!

There is another child in the family who also needs a new bike (we repaired an old one but it’s too small and very heavy). If we can get a bit beyond the target we’ve set, we hope we might be able to do something for them both.

[UPDATE - We've managed to secure two bikes, which we arenow kitting out for riding to school, with lights, locks, luggage and security for their new home...]
