A blue commemorative plaque to honour " Spitfire Makers"
Donation protected
As most will know ,I was very close to my grandad and spent many hours visiting museums and air shows, in his later years ,he shared lots of stories and memories from when he worked at the Supermarine Factory as an apprentice at 17 years old ,as riveter helping to build Spitfire wings
,I've also found out that two of my Grandads brothers also worked at Supermarine ,one of them met his wife there ,and my nan also worked there for a short time until she married grandad.I could of listened to his stories for hours "he told me about eating his sandwiches, from a brown paper bag ,on the slipway .The slipway being the only part of the Factory that's left .A perfect place for a plaque .
I am also a volunteer a Solent Sky Museum, where I have been helping out for 8 years now .Grandad loved the museum and he was invited to the 80th Anniversary of the Spitfire,I can still remember him ,running his hands along the metal of the wing ,running his fingertips over the rivets .
A few weeks before my grandad sadly passed away,I became a volunteer at the museum because, I promised to keep his "Spitfire shiny"
2020 I went to the launch of Spitfire makers charitable Trust and the rest is history .I absolutely love my volunteer work ,it's so important to keep history alive , I feel so proud sharing my Grandads stories .
we must always remember the important job Spitfire makers did.
