TO THE WORLD,
My name is Jessica Savage- Jones, MSN, RN (Founder/President of Standing Up 2 Breast Cancer Nonprofit Organization) and Dr. Nia Imani Bailey (Founder/President of Smiley 91 LLC). We are partnering for an upcoming event, A Letter To My Sisters: A Breast Cancer Documentary For Young Women.
The purpose of this event is to educate the masses about breast cancer in young people, specifically women. At this event we will be screening the documentary, A Letter to My Sisters: A Breast Cancer Documentary for Young Women, created by Dr. Nia Imani Bailey.
The documentary gives insight into the journey of 3 young women, from different backgrounds, as they navigate life after their breast cancer diagnosis. We are seeking sponsors to help fund the final phase of production for this documentary.
Jessica Savage-Jones, MSN, RN is the founder and president of Stand Up to Breast Cancer Nonprofit Organization. Their mission is to provide education about breast cancer and create awareness about clinical trials. Jessica Savage-Jones, MSN, RN is a Public Health Nurse who has been working in nursing for 13 years. Jessica completed her master’s degree in Public Health Nursing from the Johns Hopkins University.
In her current role, she works with individuals who are in various stages of their cancer diagnosis from those who are newly diagnosed to those with metastatic breast cancer. While working as a clinical research nurse at the University of Pennsylvania Jessica fell in love with research. She quickly developed a passion for patient advocacy and increasing awareness and diversity in clinical trials. As a result of this passion, she decided to start STAND UP 2 Breast Cancer!
Dr. Nia Imani Bailey, DPA, M.A.Ed, RT(T) has been employed as a Radiation Therapist for the last eight years. Dr. Bailey received her doctoral degree in Public Administration at West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Her dissertation “Federal Health Reform: Breast Cancer Outcomes” focused and described how young women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Healthcare regulations and guidelines are preventing young women from getting early preventive care and services. This study aimed to examine policy frameworks for screening mammograms and insurance coverage.
The documentary features:
• One Jamaican/Asian/Puerto Rican Woman, Janique Rivera, who was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) in her 20s.
• One Mexican Woman, Brenda Dorantes, who was diagnosed in her 30s; the conversation is in Spanish with English subtitles.
• One Caucasian Woman, Lynne Mitchell, who was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) in her 40s.
After the first phase of production, we are now working with an independent film production company to make this documentary even better than before!
To achieve this, we will film the interviews with industry standard cinematography, lighting and sound, creating powerful and engaging visuals to match their powerful stories. With an increased production value, this film will have the professional and cinematic quality, necessary to be showcased on larger platforms and the message of this film can therefore reach a wider audience.
The production expenses include, but not limited to, location, travel, crew, equipment, as well as editing, music licensing, sound design and other post-production fees.
Our goal is to start the conversation regarding breast cancer and breast health. As it is important to talk about the disease, it is equally important to talk about prevention. Some prevention methods include, but not limited to breastfeeding, reducing sugary and alcoholic intake, exercising, eating nutritional foods, not smoking, and achieving a healthy body weight.
Our mission is to save lives by empowering and educating men and women about breast cancer, promoting breast health awareness, and providing valuable information on prevention strategies. Through our efforts, we strive to create a world where everyone has the knowledge and resources to detect breast cancer early, take proactive steps for their breast health, and ultimately contribute to the reduction of breast cancer mortality rates.
This is the takeaway from the documentary, as well as, learning family cancer history, knowing your body, and advocating for yourself! We humbly ask that you consider sponsoring this wonderful project.
All proceeds from your donation will benefit costs of creating a phenomenal documentary. We also ask for you to advocate for us by sharing the mission of early detection, and prevention with a family member or friend. Even a quick mention on your social media account(s) regarding our upcoming event would mean the world to us!With your assistance and sponsorship, we can continue to support the cause of eradicating breast cancer—which we so desperately need.
Thank you in advance for your consideration,Jessica Savage-Jones, MSN, RN & Dr. Nia Imani Bailey, DPA, M.A.Ed., RT(T)
