A Broken Puppy Needs Surgery
Donation protected
According to my vet, this sweet boy was born in July and since then has not been taken care of properly. My vet used the words neglect and malnourished freely. I got the opportunity to meet Oakley in early January and immediately knew something was wrong. His back was crooked, his ribs where showing and he couldn’t put weight on his back-right leg. He would yelp out in pain when he stood up and he could not sit properly. His previous owners were not properly caring for him as he was often left alone for days on end with only a bucket of water. I fed him when I could, but he was not in my care yet. On January 31st I took Oakley to the vet. The vet informed me that this sweet boy’s femur was broken in two places, the dislocated ball joint was crushed and he had likely been in severe pain for the last 6-8 weeks. There is no way to know what exactly happened but my vet called the damage “catastrophic.” Angry and heart broken didn’t even begin to cover the feelings I felt. The owner agreed to fully relinquish responsibility to me and I have committed to getting him the help he needs, but need more financial support. I have spoken to two veterinarians concerning Oakley and have hope that surgery can provide him a fully functional life without pain, but the cost will be approximately $4,000. This puppy loves to snuggle, hates being left behind and wants so badly to run around like everyone else. Any amount you can give big or small would be greatly appreciate by this pup. The funds will be used directly for surgery and any additional funds will be donated to a local non profit animal rescue.
