A Carriage for Queen Kandi

Donation protected
Hi! Thank you for visiting my gofundme page.

The adorable little sausage in the photo is my beautiful little lady Kandi.

Kandi has suffered a large full thickness burn to her right side whilst she was recovering from a spay, hernia repair and lumpectomy at my usual vet practice. This has resulted in her losing a vast amount of skin on her right side and now we're discovering even deeper damage to the soft tissue underneath.

She has spent the last week and a half in a vet hospital where she has been brilliantly cared for and pampered and all the staff absolutely adore her. I couldn't have wished for better care for her. But tomorrow she starts the next leg of her harrowing and painful journey.

She will be transferred to a specialist in skin and soft tissue surgery where hopefully her wound can be repaired with a skin graft. It will be a long and painful journey for us all but ultimately, I'm just glad to still have her with us. From day one I have questioned the vets involved in her treatment for this as to whether I was acting in her best interests by continuing to treat this horrific injury. Every day. And thankfully the answer has always been a firm yes.

Once her surgery is done and a care plan is put in place by the surgeon, she will eventually be allowed back home. Her ground shaking snoring has been massively missed! But she will need to go back regularly for wound flushing, dressing changes and regular checks on her progress. And this is where I'm hoping for some help from you lovely lot!

I live in an upstairs flat, no lift, so will need to carry Kandi downstairs to put her into the car and then carry her from the car into the surgery for her checks and treatments. Due to the size and position of her wound, picking her up and putting her in and out of the car multiple times will be extremely painful and uncomfortable for her. She loves to be outside too but won't be able to go on the usual walks she enjoys so much. So I would very much like to buy a pet stroller for her which has a detachable pet carrier that I can simply pop her into and carry her without risking catching her wound and causing her pain. It will also make it very simple to simply place it in the car and lift it out without having to try and manoeuvre her out of her travel crate or lift her off the seat.

Funds are very low and whilst the offending vets have agreed to pay her £10,000+ vet bills for their mistake, I'm still waiting for them to refund money I had to pay for her emergency treatment to the tune of over £400.

I'd love to be able to say I can take them to court and claim damages etc but unfortunately, UK law states that animals are classed as nothing more than property and their value is merely monetary. This means that legally, all I could claim for are the costs for her care which they have already agreed to pay. I could try to claim for the cost of the desired pet stroller but it's needed sooner rather than later and a court case could take months and months to be heard with no guarantee of a win because it's not essential. I just want to keep her pain and suffering to a minimum and this will help massively.

Above is the link to the stroller I have in mind for her. I could plump for a far more expensive one but this will do the job perfectly well!

All donations are hugely appreciated by myself and Kandi so if you are able to donate whatever you can, we would be eternally grateful!

If we manage to raise money above the target, this will be used to purchase clothing for Kandi when she is able to wear them. A skin graft will mean no fur so she will need warm clothes and also clothing to block out the sun as she will be very susceptible to sunburn for the rest of her precious life. Being a sausage dog (and a long one at that), she will need dachshund specific clothing which is not only hard to come by but it's also way more expensive than standard pet clothing that is widely available.

Please, if you can, make a donation towards Kandi's new wheels but if you can't, that's fine! Just showing your support is equally appreciated and maybe if you could give the link a share?

Much sausage love to you all and thank you for reading Kandi's story ❤️
