A Chance to Breathe: Midge's Fight for Life.

Donation protected
Meet Midge, a 3-year-old French Bulldog whose bright spirit and zest for life belies the serious breathing issues she has battled since puppyhood. This sweet, loving girl adores people, other dogs, and chasing after balls. But with every joyful bound, Midge struggles against the cruel constraints of her brachycephalic anatomy.

By 18 months old, Midge's labored breathing became so severe that she required major airway surgery. Unfortunately, her ordeal was just beginning. Despite undertaking further revision surgery a year later, Midge's quality of life remains compromised, She is having to live on steroids and antibiotics. A recent assessment revealed the harsh truth – she has large growths blocking half of her laryngeal opening and stage 2 laryngeal collapse.

This little girl means the world to me, and I refuse to give up on her. I can’t sit by and watch her slowly suffocate. While there are two options, the only one I can pursue is undertaking a surgery that hasn’t previously been performed in Australia, only in the United States. It will involve removing the obstructive growths and Midge's vocal cords through an external incision, instead of through her mouth. A temporary tracheostomy will let Midge breathe while she recovers from this intensive procedure.

Midge's unconditional love and fighting spirit gives me hope, but the road ahead is costly and difficult. This pioneering surgery requiring extended intensive care is estimated to cost between $15,000 to $20,000, not including any unforeseen complications. While Midge may lose the ability to bark from this surgery, she will gain the ability to breathe freely for the first time in her short life.

Midge's brave fight will pave the way to help other brachycephalic dogs in Australia to receive this groundbreaking surgery and have the chance to run and play without struggling for every breath.
Sweet Midge deserves this life saving surgery as do all dogs that struggle every day to simply breathe.
As mentioned, this groundbreaking surgery is expensive, and as a single working woman, I need support. Therefore, I ask, can you open your heart to help Midge’s. fight to breathe freely?

Any donation would be appreciated as it will make an immense difference for Midge and other dogs like her facing a lifetime of struggling to breathe.
Please help give Midge, this precious little soul the chance of having an active joyful life.
Thank you.
Christine.
