A community Boxing Club in New Malden
Donation protected
We are Friends of Kingston Road Recreation Ground (FKRRG) and for the last three years we have been working to bring the park back to life. Our projects have seen hundreds of new trees and hedges planted. Established a a nature area with an orchard, bug hotel and beetle loggery. We have also secured funding to refurbish the playground and build a perimeter path and new gym stations.
The old changing rooms in the park have been derelict for some time, we have been working with Ben Young, who runs a small local amateur boxing club to take control of the building and bring them back into use as a Community Facility. The buildings, however, do require a lot of work to achieve this.
Two Kings Boxing Club was established in 2012 to provide a fitness facility and workout environment utilizing boxing as a means to get fit and stay fit. It has helped many people who were heading on the wrong path and has produced national champions and professional boxers. Ben does all of this on a voluntary basis in addition to his job as a roofer.
We have secured an agreement in principal with Kingston Council for Ben to take over the lease of the buildings and refit it as Community Boxing Gym. To finalise the handover of the lease we need to produce a Structural Engineering Design and Analysis Report. (Cost £920) This will allow us to obtain building regulations and start the building works.
We also require extra funds to remove interior walls and strengthen the roof with new supporting beams. (£2000)
