A Documentary to Help Save Utah's Great Salt Lake

The Great Salt Lake in Utah is an incredibly unique and important ecological feature of our continent. Our negligence and disregard for this remarkable feature have led to its rapidly shrinking size. If the people and industries of Utah don’t come together and work towards a solution, this lake could be gone in the very near future. This would mean the collapse of an ecosystem, and the potential of catastrophic repercussions throughout the area for humans as toxic materials from the lakebed fill the valley. There has been an increase in coverage of the lake, but the general population still doesn’t realize the magnitude of this problem. The news does nothing to display the true majesty of the lake, just uses shock and fear to tell its stories. I am working on a documentary intending to inspire people in and beyond Utah to see the lake as more than just the namesake of a city. It is a place that brings life to this stark desert we dwell in, and without it, we probably wouldn't be here at all.
My goal is to create a 45-minute documentary centered around Salt Lake City's culture and what is happening to the lake. I will do this by incorporating skiing and the huge dominion it holds over the lifestyle of many here in Utah. By targeting this community, I hope to secure an audience with open ears and hearts, whose caring for the matter would be a significant step towards solving the problem.
I will be talking to many local Professors, scientists, and businesspeople, as well as working with Snowbird Ski Resort to try to give the ski industry another level of involvement in the matter. It is an enormous undertaking, and I'm very excited about it. I am moving back to Utah for the next eight months to shoot this film, and expenses will be high. I am looking for help in any way and amount possible, so things on the production and distribution side can go as smoothly as possible. I am committed to making this piece of art as powerful as possible with or without funds, but every dollar will increase my capabilities of doing so, and ensure that more eyes see the final film when it's finished. I hope you can help, and that you can watch this project when I'm done and hopefully feel inspired to visit and/or help save the beautiful Great Salt Lake.
