My name is Ashley, Gerhard’s husband or widower. I prefer to think of myself as his husband as I feel certain he remains close by keeping watch and guiding me along the way when I need him.
My name is Ashley, Gerhard’s husband or widower. I prefer to think of myself as his husband as I feel certain he remains close by keeping watch and guiding me along the way when I need him.
Mid Saturday morning on 1 Sep 2018, Gerhard sms’d to meet three hours later for a day out walking in London. He never reached the agreed meeting place at Kings Cross station, disappearing and mobile phone contact lost.
I found him the next day deceased in Regents Park, neatly covered by his gym towel. Despite there being clear signs that the scene, wounds and markings on his body indicating otherwise, Met Police within days, declared his death unknown but non-suspicious. What followed was a process of persistent cover up by Met Police officers and a kangaroo process of inquisition culminating in the coroner ruling his death as suicide.
Material new evidence which includes mobile phone forensic evidence of him meeting to purchase steroids to assist his gym training in the minutes before his watch stopped recording his heartbeat (Gerhard was leanly built and used mild steroids from time to time to assist in his weight gain). He also left a journal written a week before his death naming individuals he wanted to report to police for drug dealing and supply which included influential businessmen in London and most significantly, a senior official within the Conservative Party, strongly connected to Met Police, the City of Westminster and government at the highest levels possible.
A campaign has been launched to raise awareness and funds for the legal processes necessary to ensure reinvestigation into his killing and a new inquest to determine the true circumstances of his death and the investigations that followed.
To date, costs for forensic testing, toxicology advice, and legal assessments have amounted to £18 920 and have been quoted for barrister representation still to be funded as follows:
S13 Application for the Inquest finding of suicide to be quashed £20 – 30 000
Barrister representation at a new Inquest £20 – 30 000
Forensic autopsy performed on wounds £10 000 (Est)
Professional forensic assessment of all evidence £10 000 (Est)
As Gerhard’s husband, I am simply unable to afford such substantial costs against the might of Met Police, government and those behind the cover up in investigation.
I would appreciate any financial assistance, no matter how small, in helping to find the truth in what lies behind the killing and subsequent cover up.
I hope to rely on the mantra of “a little from a lot will fund a lot”. And I hope anyone reading this will find it in the heart to contribute, possibly considering it as buying Gerhard a cup of coffee for his spirit in the sky. (His last point of call just over an hour before last recorded heartbeat was to Starbucks for a toasted sandwich and cup of coffee – typical of his habits)
Of course, my heart and soul is in the fight for truth in Gerhard’s memory and for him.
But it is far more than just that. I know that if I don’t fight this fight, then I am giving up on corruption and failure. In doing so I would be losing the opportunity to fight for change and the opportunity to ensure others are not subjected to the horrors I have had to face in seeking truth and our fundamental right to justice.
