A Floral Tribute to RBG
Donation protected
I have long admired Ruth Bader Ginsburg as an exemplary person who fought for equality for all. While she goes down in history for so many reasons, RBG was particularly iconic for her neckwear, technically called a jabot. Not only were they stylish, but each neck collar held a special meaning and form of communication from her collection.
As a professional in the floral industry, I've always admired RBG's neckwear and thought how fun and beautiful it would be to make floral recreations of the collection. For the sixth year in a row, Debra Prinzing, the founder of Slowflowers.com hosts a floral couture collection in honor of American Flowers.Week. As a previous designer in 2019, and I was again asked to join the collection of designers for the 2021 Botanical Couture Collection. I knew exactly what I wanted to design- RBG's neckwear!
How will this be beneficial: While this floral installation is very dear to my heart, my hope is for others to find it inspirational; as well as beautiful, and develop more awareness about local floral communities across the United States.
A Floral Tribute Overview: The overall idea will be six designers, who each selected the collar of their choice, recreating the neck collars using only floral materials. Each recreation must look similar to the real collar.
Then local style influencer, Riva La Diva, will take a basic black judge's robe, transforming it into a couture dress!
Next, I will take the dress and adorn it with botanical materials. Staying true to the color of the robe, I will design with black hues. No easy task! The neck and chest of the dress will be left untouched as this is where the neckwear will be showcased just like the late RBG would do. Each collar will be photographed, as well as the overall dress. The model of the ensemble will be Riva La Diva, and the photographer will be Missy Palacol Photography.
The photo shoot will be happening within the first two weeks of April. The images will go onto be showcased at DebraPrinzing.com, SlowflowersSociety.com, plus published in the next Slow Flowers Journal Volume 2 book.
Having your support really would mean the world to me. This is the first time I have ever launched a gofundme campaign. All contributions will go towards the supplies and expense of this shoot.
Thank you- Tammy
