Help Mara Buy A New Medieval Flute!
Donation protected
My name is Mara Winter, I am a devoted historical and modern flutist, and I nurture an especially fierce love for the music of the medieval time period.
It is always a long and complex journey to find the perfect instrument to play such ancient music on with artistic integrity. I have found myself at a point on my creative path from which I cannot move forward without acquiring a flute which will fit the needs of the repertoire I desire to play, such as the emotional, often romantic music of the Troubadors and Trouvères, or the complex and passionate Italian Trecento period.
I have found a maker in Switzerland who is, at present, crafting the flute of my wildest dreams! It is an extremely versatile, responsive, and beautiful instrument which I will be able to play in both medieval and folk ensembles. Mine will resemble the second flute from the right:
Unfortunately, against the costs of independently supporting myself, attending competitive summer music programs, and paying tuition for grad school next fall, I am running out of resources to bring my flute across the Atlantic Ocean.
This is me at the 2013 Vancouver Early Music Festival, working with the amazing Norbert Rodenkirchen of Sequentia.
One way or another, I am planning on paying for this flute by May or June of this year so that I can use it to perform across the Pacific Northwest with my medieval ensemble, in addition to several larger tours with local and international folk ensembles in the approaching months.
Any donation you wish to make will be welcomed with a gratitude beyond what words could give meaning to. Thank you for your incredible support!
