Grandmother In Immediate Need of a Home

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Patricia Towery and I am a widow, a mother, and a grandmother. I have been through a lot of pain and sorrow in my life, as so many of us have, but I never lost hope. I always did my best for my family and myself.

I lost my husband, Jeff, when he was only 39 years old to hereditary heart disease. We had a daughter, who was 11, and a son, who was 7 at that time. I worked and raised our kids by myself for almost 10 years, before my health started to fail. I was declared disabled by state doctors in 2000. I have hypertensive and congestive heart disease, diabetes that has caused neuropathy in my feet and legs, and I’m at stage 4 kidney failure. I recently learned from my nephrologist that my kidney function is only at 23%.

While I was waiting for my Social Security Disability to come through, (it took 2 years) in those 2 years I lost the home that Jeff and I had bought together. That shattered our hearts, but there was nothing I could do. So we moved to a smaller place and we learned to live with less. It was hard for a single mama, but I managed to finish raising my kids. My daughter married and moved to her own home. My son has battled with major depression for many years now and struggles to find his purpose in life and he works when he can. He lives with me and helps me with everything I can’t do anymore. His son is with us quite often as well. My kids and my 3 grandchildren are my world and my reason to keep fighting.

In 2022, we lost our rental apartment because of a mix up with section 8 and we all know how government works. Even though the mix up was caused by changing of office managers three different times, we were still tossed out. My daughter and 2 granddaughters were kind enough to squeeze together and take us in their small home. It’s been 17 months now and I long for a home of my own and my young granddaughter longs for her room back. My son has been staying in her garage and without insulation it’s been very cold or very hot at times. As my kidneys continue to worsen, I’m facing a future with dialysis and/or a kidney transplant.

Over the last few years, the country has learned about contaminated water at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. My daddy was a Marine there and I was born there in 1957. We lived there until I was 4 1/2 years old. I believe that’s why I’ve been suffering with my kidneys and that is on the list of illnesses. Tests from routine water treatment plant sampling and samples of water supply wells identified that trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE), vinyl chloride (VC) and benzene contaminated some drinking water sources at Camp Lejeune. These chemicals are linked to a range of cancers, including kidney cancer and kidney disease.

I am looking for help with getting a home of my own and a new lease on life. I need at least $150,000 to buy a simple, cozy and comfortable place in NC This amount will cover getting a piece of land and a manufactured home. Every dollar you give is a blessing and a miracle. I am so grateful for your kindness and generosity.

Please help me get a home of my own and a new lease on life. Please help me create a better future for myself and my family. Please help me show my little family that anything is possible with faith and love.

Thank you for reading my story and for your generosity. God bless you.
