Recently, I have been interacting with various Facebook Groups in Pakistan that are helping people find Plasma Donors (A cure method for Covid-19 that seems to be working ) and to help procure the ACTEMRA Injection (A vital injection given to patients while undergoing Covid-19 treatment). This injection usually is priced at RS. 11,000( US $ 68 ) but currently inflated to RS. 75,000 to RS. 300,000 (USD $ 460 - $ 1850).
More than 30% of the population in Pakistan lives under the poverty line and due to the recent lockdowns in place, a steady income has not made its way to many of these patients who now have to deal with the unexpected costs of hospitals, pharmacies, continuous medical tests, doctor visits, injections etc.
For an average person this fund is targeted towards who earns RS. 20,000 ( USD $125) per month and savings close to zero , bearing these unexpected costs of approximately RS.500,000 ( USD $3100) can be devastating.
Just to paint a picture, last night itself (4th June 2020), 22 people that a Facebook group was helping lost their lives because they could not afford to get the injection that might have saved their life. This was my tipping point as it saddens me to see this happening around us and this is where I need all of you to step up and support our community.
All the money generated through this platform will be used for deserving Covid-19 patients in Pakistan who do not have the financial resources themselves to help them through these tough times. 100% of the money generated will be transferred to Pakistan where patients and their families who reach out to me personally or I get to know of that are in need of financial assistance will be helped out immediately.
Any amount of donation will do its job, the goal set is just a milestone number and definitely the amount of funds needed will be much more however to get us started achieving this goal will be our top priority as it will allow us to help many deserving households.
The situation is very urgent and needs your utmost attention. Everyday wasted is a handful of lives lost, and in my opinion no life should be lost merely because someone could not afford a treatment that may have helped them survive.
