A Funeral for Fred

Mary Beth and her son, Freddie, are two of the kindest people I know despite almost constant challenges and hardships being thrown at them. They are givers and fighters. Mary Beth, a cancer survivor, has recently been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. She works full-time as a pediatric nurse, sharing her love and compassion with children at the facility.

Most importantly, she is an amazing Mom who cares for her son, Freddie, as well as her cousin who graduates from high school in June. She works tirelessly to support others, but despite this, she and her husband were having difficulty making ends meet and recently received an eviction notice.

I received a message from Mary Beth. It said, "Fred killed himself."

My heart went through my chest, "How will they make sense of this? How will they make it through this emotionally and financially? This can't be true!!!"

But it is, and they need our help. They need to plan a funeral... for a husband, for a father, for a friend. They need to find housing.

I asked Mary Beth if it would be okay to start a Go Fund Me. I wasn't sure what she would think, but she agreed that it is time to accept help and support.

"Fred Glasby, age 57, took his life on 1/19/23. He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth and son, Freddie, age 16. Fred was deeply loved by his family, and they are devastated by his loss. Mary Beth and Freddie need your help with funeral expenses and unpaid bills. Any help you could give them will be greatly appreciated."
