"A Future Beyond War: Help Mais and Her Family Survive"

My name is Greta Berlin, and I'm the co-founder of the Free Gaza movement, the boats to Gaza. I'm here to raise money for a family, Allam, Rania, and their 2-year-old daughter, because I've worked with Allam for years since I was his mentor with We Are Not Numbers. I've watched him grow into an amazing young man, marry the woman he deeply loves, and was thrilled when their daughter was born. Now, as another war rages on, Mais and her family desperately need your help to escape the devastation and build a future.

Allam and Rania were the translators/directors/designers of Free Gaza’s 15th-year celebration of our first successful voyage into Gaza. They created a 40-minute video for us for free. And we’d now like to help them as they have helped us. Breaking Barriers The Free Gaza Flotillas (click on the underlined words to see their translation of our videos)

Meet Mais, a resilient 2-year-old living in the Jabalia refugee camp in North Gaza. Born into a world scarred by conflict, Mais had already endured the horrors of war from within her mother's womb.

Mais' innocent murmurs echo the harsh reality of life in North Gaza. "Buy me an apple, Dad," she whispers in her sleep, a simple plea for nourishment. But in a land where hunger stalks, even dreams of fruit are a luxury.

Mais' father, Allam, once a successful translator, now walks miles each day in search of food for his family. Yet, despite his efforts, hunger looms. His wife, Rania, stands by his side, supporting their family and nurturing Mais' dreams. Before the war, Allam had already translated three books and enjoyed a burgeoning career. His talent extended beyond translation; he was a skilled writer, as evidenced by works like "No Exit" and "A Chance Encounter with My Teacher and a Tree." A TED Translators interview from 2019 showcased his passion for language and literature. With Rania's support, they even established an educational YouTube channel, offering language lessons and content in English, Arabic, and Hebrew.

The situation in Gaza is nothing short of a humanitarian disaster. Recent reports from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) highlight the imminent threat of famine, particularly in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. With more than half of Gaza's population facing catastrophic hunger, the scale of suffering is staggering. Children, like Mais, are especially vulnerable as acute malnutrition rates soar and many face starvation. Access to necessities is severely limited, exacerbated by the ongoing conflict and restricted movement. Aid organizations, like the World Food Programme (WFP), struggle to deliver essential supplies, facing obstacles at every turn. The complexities of border controls and heightened tensions only add to the challenges, hindering the delivery of vital aid to those in need.

Your support for Mais and her family is not just about providing immediate relief; it's about offering a lifeline to a family on the brink.

We refuse to stand idly by as her dreams wither in the face of famine. Our mission is clear: to provide Mais and her family with the means to escape the horrors of war and famine in North Gaza and give them a chance to survive.

How You Can Help: Your donation, no matter the size, can make a life-changing difference for Mais and her family. With your help, we want to raise a minimum of $20,000 to cover their "escape-from-death" fees and facilitate their temporary settlement in Egypt. Together, we can offer Mais and her family a glimmer of hope in their darkest hour.
