Letter from our Director

 

I realize there are a many laudable organizations you may choose to contribute to this year. It is my sincere hope that A Gathering of the Tribes will be one of them.

 

Tribes is unique in that it is a community organization with a unflinchingly leftist mission of political and social import, as well as, and above all, an organization that celebrates the arts, from the avant-garde, experimental and debut, to the well-established revolutionary voices of our time. Tribes was built on a foundation of radical inclusivity, as well as the brutally honest acknowledgment that many artists and writers do not have access to the same platforms or opportunities as their traditionally celebrated counterparts.

 

Tribes needs your support. Over the last year, A Gathering of the Tribes Magazine Online has published more than 100 new, original works by contemporary, diverse poets and writers, including fiction, reviews, poetry and personal essays. We enjoy a readership of approximately 50k individuals, annually, bringing the work of traditionally under-represented authors to a wide audience.

 

Through commissions of new poetry, prose and visual art, as well as stipends for volunteer work, and live readings, Tribes has distributed more than $20,000 to contemporary artists and writers of diversity in the last year alone.

 

It is so important that artists receive financial support for and recognition of their work. We need your help to ensure that we cannot only continue to compensate working artists and writers, while providing increased visibility, but steadily increase the support we are able to provide.
