a grieving Black muslim sister faces eviction

Donation protected
Salam Alyakum,

I’m writing this because as a Black Muslim woman, I was wrongfully terminated due to violent ableism and islamophobia.

A job that I moved (to the Capital city) halfway across the country believing that Alhamdulilah, I could now provide financial relief to my family. The preyed on my vulnerabilities, fostered an extremely toxic work environment, and ultimately threw me out (literally and figuratively) on to the street. My salat and abayas and aversion to dogs didn’t sit with them well. Because DC is an at-will state, they gave me no reason for the termination and no notice. I had less then 15 minutes from the time they told me the news to when they escorted me all the way outside.

So these funds I’m collecting is because I have exhausted all of my savings relocating across the country. My family and I are struggling financially and mentally on top of all our newfound grief.

A few days after I was fired, I lost my grandmother to stage 4 cancer. Allah yerhamha. On top of all that, I am unable to receive unemployment benefits due to Foundations’ being granted exemptions for being a ‘nonprofit.’

All funds will be used solely for rent and utilities and medication for the month of July and August.

Jazakallah Khair for doing me this kindness. May Allah reward you boundlessly. And please make dua for me. :/
