UPDATE 10/3/21 - After 35 days, Emri was paused on the transplant list due to
complications. She developed blood clots and her protein count was unacceptable. It was decided to attempt another procedure to repair her mitral and tricuspid valves. This took place on 10/1 & while the open heart surgery was partially successful, Emri was still placed on ECMO and dialysis. Today it was determined that her R lung was collapsed. Despite it all, Emri is resting and healing. We are all in constant prayer for her miracle. Jim & Ashalyn continue the balancing act of home and hospital life as they care for both of their children. 8/31/21 - Emri was born on July 5, 2021. She is absolutely beautiful! We knew in advance that she was going to have some heart issues but it turns out her heart was much worse than expected. She’s had several surgeries already and was placed on the heart transplant list Tuesday, August 17. She is currently in the hospital in St. Louis, Missouri which is where she will stay until a donor heart is found for her. She is listed as what is called 1A, which means that Emri will remain in the hospital sedated, on many medicines and a ventilator until she gets a heart. Ashalyn and Jim and big brother Mac have been incredibly strong through this process. We all look forward to Emri getting her new heart and being able to come home, but it appears that is not going to be any time soon so her friends and family wanted to organize a fundraiser to help them.
Ashalyn grew up in Walnut Grove, MO and Jim grew up in St. Charles, MO. They met at Missouri Valley College and the rest is history. They were married in 2013 and have a 6 year old son. Ash works for Boeing and Jim is a police officer. They have insurance but an average day in the CICU is $11,000.00 and they are currently at 55 days. As you can imagine, the co-pays and extra costs such as gas, food, days off work, etc., add up.
