A helpless single mother of a newborn baby in UNL

I am a helpless single mother of a newborn baby. I am a postdoc researcher in the College of Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). The abuser is a Chinese PhD student in Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at UNL. I experienced multiple instances of domestic violence during my pregnancy and childbirth, as my behavior and thoughts were controlled. I was forced to conduct experiments and analyze data for this PhD student, and my newborn baby was abandoned. These bad behaviors have caused me immense mental, work, and financial stress. His Chinese advisor has already admitted his misconducts including academic cheating during our conversation on 07/2023.

Even though, I have been banned from using the lab in UNL on 10/11/2023, advised to take leave, and informed that I won't receive any salary for sick leave exceeding five days. I will be left to independently raise the child without any income, while his biological father never gives the child support.

Furthermore, I was persistently harassed, including previously cutting off the internet at my residence without my consent, deleting the Microsoft account on my work computer, and even subjecting me to severe sexual harassment by sending nude photos of himself !!!

I have been trying my best to escape from such various harassments, but it seems impossible.

On 07/2023, I reported these abusive behavior and academic cheating to the school, and nearly four months have passed without any disciplinary actions against him. I have already submitted all the evidence (videos, photos, chat records, email records and original experimental data analysis) to Title IX, college and his advisor, including domestic violence, newborn baby abandonment, sex harassment and academic cheating.

Nearly 4 months have passed, the abuser has not faced any consequences. Instead, I have been paying the price for his misconduct. He subjected me to domestic violence, causing my physical pain and immense psychological pressure. He abandoned our newborn baby, and I have been supporting the child with my meager salary. He engaged in academic cheating, and I have been unable to protect my academic rights. He sexually harassed me, yet he has not been prohibited while I have been barred from using the lab.

After experiencing sexual harassment, I felt extremely helpless. I reached out to the college again in Sep. However, I was informed that the college would not intervene unless it was related to academics. Therefore, I submitted evidence of his academic cheating to the college, and one month has passed without any response.

As a renowned American institution, UNL, I feel helpless with the school's delay in addressing the situation, and almost ignore my terrible situation. I know my power is very weak.

Domestic violence and sexual harassment cannot be absolutely tolerant in any culture, and I need to find an effective way to protect my rights, even it is extremely difficult.

As a female foreign researcher, although my power is limited, I still hope to receive fair treatment at UNL. I should not be subjected to humiliation and discrimination.

Now I need to support the whole families, including my little baby, and I cannot get full paid on the upcoming Nov. Now I cannot afford a lawyer represent me to file a discrimination case in the court system, and legal aid is not responsible for this area.
