Support our studio opening!
Hello! We are raising funds to open a studio space that will house our body art practices, a small private retail show room, and arts/event programming in a vibrant botanical setting. Collectively, with your support, we hope to launch this creative oasis in the winter of 2021 should the pandemic allow.
ABOUT US✨
We are a collective of Black and Biracial early-career artists and makers of various disciplines. Beyond our creative practices, we are also close friends and chosen family, and this is very much a family endeavor! For many years, we have had the dream of sharing a physical studio space to expand our complimentary trades and artistic practices: a place where we can share knowledge, build new traditions, and promote limitless self expression for our peers and all who enter.
Funding for the space will enable us to host the following:
-two fully equipped body art stations, to be shared by certified, trauma-informed early career tattooists (with a focus on BIPOC/lgbtq/self+community taught artists). With a focus on providing a safe, sanitary and legal work space for marginalized tattooers who have systemically been barred from careers in tattooing through the means of traditional apprenticeship, we hope for this to be as much a learning and sharing space as it is a “working” space.
-a lovingly curated showroom of antique and vintage clothing, furniture, and homewares, complimented by a rotating retail display of local artists and makers
-an indoor botanical space and eco-art lounge: a visually and mentally stimulating spot to convene and create. In our long term vision, our team will also host events and educational programming with an artistic + environmental focus in the space.
-a rotating gallery wall highlighting the works of our community members and celebrating themes of liberation, imagination, and joy.
At this point, we are thrilled to have been approved to lease the physical space, which is already zoned as needed! Our current goal of 15k would cover our next necessary steps, which include:
-obtaining the necessary licensure and insurance
-securing rent and utilities for at least six months, which allows us plenty of time to establish our clientele and some income.
-furnishing and stocking the respective aspects of he space
-other various body-art related expenses I.e. safe sharps disposal, etc.
throughout the month of May, we will be sharing updates on our goals, bios of our team members, and information about us via Instagram at @thejunglechi. You can follow us to stay up to date!
your support in our goals is invaluable, and we can only hope to pour it back into the world ten fold through the art and memories we create in our new space. Thank you for reading and supporting!
