Rebuilding after Tragedy for Sexual Assault Victim

A family of 8 needs your help desperately. Please consider how you can help after reading their tumultuous story. I apologize for its length but I believe you need to understand their entire story in order to understand the gravity of the need.

June of 2020 I meet a young teen girl and her mom in the NICU of Baylor Scott & White Temple when my baby Delilah Ann and the young teen mom's, baby daughter were there. The young teen mom was just 13 years old, she had been raped and as a result, became pregnant. And the perpetrator, at that point in time, was unknown. We will call the teen mom "M" and we will call her baby daughter, Baby Bee. Baby Bee was born at 26 weeks and was quite ill, weighing only 2.0 pounds. Baby Bee was Delilah’s first friend and we were so thankful to have met each other.

Baby Bee shortly grew well enough to leave the hospital after more than 4 months in the NICU. She did leave with a G-tube and many health concerns. We were thrilled for the family and knew we would be friends forever.

Baby Bee’s Mom, "M" is the oldest of 6 children (in 2020, their ages were 13, 12, 11, 10, 8 and 6). They lived in a home with their Mom & Dad, and their father was the sole income for the family. In order to care for Baby Bee, it requires many dr appts. The family managed many hard times through the next few months as they dealt with a special needs child, along with the needs of all the children in the house.

In February 2021, during Winter Storm Uri, their house caught fire. Everyone was safe , but the home and everything in it was a total loss.

Do you know the rental business? Quite difficult to find a home for 9 in a price range that this sweet family could afford. Most places took their application fees and gave them an answer of no - too large of a family. By a complete miracle, that I believe is only possible by God, a family that was entering the mission field reached out to them via messenger to let the family know they had the perfect house for them. This angel family was thrilled to bless Baby Bee’s family in this way. By all accounts it was the perfect home. Enough rooms, 2 living rooms and a great yard.

Through many more trials this family was finally getting settled in their new home. Through the kindness of other community angels everything they needed in the home was either donated or gifted to them. The outpouring was so generous that it humbled the mom (Baby Bee’s grandmother).

However, heartbreak did not end here. Although the family was together and Baby Bee was getting better everyday, it was not long before their world was rocked once again.

In August 2021, the three oldest children ("M", "L", and "C") all made outcries of sexual abuse against their father. Their father was at work at the time of the outcries.

Immediately CPS and police were involved, and helped the family through that extremely hard time. "M" told the caseworker that her father was the person that raped her and he was the father of Baby Bee. CPS and the police notified the father that he was not allowed to return to the home, and put a safety plan in place. While the case was being investigated, the father quit his job and disappeared.

Their mom (Baby Bee's grandma) and children felt better that he could no longer hurt them. But the family once again had no stability and had lost their only source of income. Luckily, they had partially paid rent for the year in advance via their tax refund that included the extra Covid dollars. They knew they at least had a roof over their head for a while.

The struggle is real however. Baby Bee’s grandma has cared for all 7 children alone and is still looking for a position that understands her need to have lots of flexibility. Many of the children do therapy, and grandma does as well and Baby Bee still has multiple doctors that she continues to see. Baby Bee's grandma does deliveries with UberEats and Doordash, as that is flexible hours, but unfortunately that also means that her income is not fixed, and therfore fluctuates.

All the siblings are doing well in school and all of them do a great job to help their mom out and help care for Baby Bee. My family is in awe of their resilience, kindness and their joy they have each and everyday.

I wish I could say this is where the story ends. Unfortunately this not the case. Baby Bee’s grandmother was recently told by the home owners that they are selling the home and need them out by March 25th when their lease is up. To say that this is another gut punch is an understatement. Again the family is paying application fees only to be turned down for not making 3 times the rent or for family being too large for the home.

No matter the strides every member of the family has made to heal, grow and keep marching on this certainly is a step backwards. Unfortunately, this kind family is in no better situation than they were 3 short years ago when their home burned.

Since the father has been evading the authorities and has had no further contact with the family, the family receives no child support. In the area the family lives they are on a list for housing. They have been on this list since March 2022.

I am asking for you to consider how you can help this family. They need the following:

1. A home to rent or a pathway to home ownership with AT LEAST 3 bedrooms.
2. Security deposit and all move in fees required to secure a lease.
3. Moving van and help to move.
4. Steady employment for Baby Bee’s grandmother.
5. Vehicle repairs.

Baby Bee’s grandmother, Baby Bee’s teen mom and her 5 siblings (Baby Bee's young aunts and uncles) as well as Baby Bee herself (who is now turning 4 in March), all pray you find it in your heart to help them. I have never met a family more deserving of a hand up. They have been through so much.

Their story is not over. In July 2023, the father was finally arrested and in September 2023 he was indicted by the grand jury and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a child and Indecency with a child via sexual contact, with the total bond amount set at $350,000. He is currently in jail, awaiting trial. For this reason we are not sharing their names. Likely, those hurt so badly will have to relive their painful memories. We ask you to pray for them.

Thank you for reading about them and I ask that you share this GoFundMe link with others.
