A fire has left my family devastated

Hello everyone, I’m reaching out in hopes that we can all come together and help my mother and my stepfather this holiday season. There was a fire at their home this morning and the entire right of the house is destroyed. It’s unimaginable, the news was there and just the shock of it all makes it difficult to explain. My parents were not home so they are okay, physically anyway, fortunately the dog was in the house but he is unharmed . It’s also the holidays and that is something that we celebrate and look forward to every year. My moms cooking, the decorations, the music, the smell, the laughter, tears of joy. This holiday season is going to be a tough one. The holiday cheer feels like a buried memory. It’s not so much the material stuff it’s more the sentimental value. My mom remembered the most heartbreaking thing today. She says I’ve lost my grandchildren first shoes, old printed pictures and who knows what else she’ll remember as the days go on. “My first and only home is gone,”she says. “Everything I’ve worked for is gone.” Maybe with some help we can alleviate some of that pain. I know it won’t be the same but this will pass and at least we still have them and they still have us. You see a huge issue that we uncovered today was that there was a lapse in coverage of about four months and it’s not anything that anyone did purposely it’s more of a language barrier. They received paperwork on what they thought was the insurance policy and it turned out it was a policy that protects the bank not the home itself. I think this all might’ve happened when a debit card was misplaced and a new one came in the mail. Autopay, and unfortunately it went unnoticed and theres no coverage. My mother is retired and my stepfather is disabled. My siblings and I lost our biological father on thanksgiving day a few years ago and it’s still fairly recent so to be able to help them a little bit would mean the world to us.
