Support a Journey to Empower Buddhist Women in Sri Lanka
Donation protected
On 2nd of April 2025, two Buddhist nuns from Santi Forest Monastery, Australia, embark on the challenging Three Capes hike in Tasmania. It is not just a physical journey, but a deeply spiritual undertaking.
They walk to raise awareness and funds for a transformative project for Buddhist women in Sri Lanka.
Recognizing the lack of dedicated facilities and suitable opportunities for women in Sri Lanka to practice the spiritual path in alignment with the early teachings of the Buddha, Ajahn Brahmali initiated this project with the support of Ajahn Brahm. This project is affiliated with the Buddhist Society of Western Australia (BSWA) and aims to build a training centre to:
• provide education and training based on the wisdom of early Buddhist texts.
• offer meditation instruction and create safe, tranquil spaces for women to practice.
• and present opportunities for nuns and women from the West to experience spiritual life in a traditional Buddhist country.
The estimated cost for the purchase of land and to build the centre is AUD 1 million.
This hike is the first of many events dedicated to this cause. There will be more associated fundraising campaigns as we progress through the milestones. Join us in making a difference in the lives of Buddhist women in Sri Lanka.

The Spirit of walking on Tudong
This hike is inspired by the ancient Tudong tradition — a practice where monks and nuns journey through the wilderness, renouncing material comforts to purify the mind, build resilience, and embrace the uncertainty of each day. While the nuns may not be following the traditional Tudong in its full sense, they are embodying its spirit: walking mindfully, embracing challenges, strengthening courage, and stepping forward with faith, determination, and deep commitment.
This is a spiritual hike that symbolizes perseverance, simplicity, patience, connection with the nature, and a dedication to both individual and collective transformation.
