Aureo Duque deserves to be remembered
Donation protected
I am just one of many people in Carlsbad who were stunned to hear about the tragic beating and subsequent death of Aureo Duque on Dec. 22, 2021. That day, Aureo was cleaning the parking lot by Cinepolis and the Dove Library when a 28 year old martial artist attacked him from behind, kicked his head repeatedly which put him into a coma, from which he died 5 months later. It is important is that we honor this unfortunate man with a memorial bench and tree by the Dove Library. The family wants to be present when these are put in place.
I decided to take on this task so that this kind, generous and loving man will never be forgotten. 100% of money raised will be used to pay the City of Carlsbad for the bench, tree and brass plaques. Any excess funds will be given directly to his daughter for distribution to family members as they see fit (there were 12 grandchildren, too). His wife, Honoria, was married to Aureo for 40 years, so her loss is indescribable, not to mention the pain felt by his three daughters and one son. In speaking with his family, they expressed their immense gratitude that we are caring enough to do this simple gesture for their father.
I know there are lots of compelling causes to donate your money to, but I'm grateful that the people of Carlsbad, and elsewhere, have been willing to show this family the respect they deserve by raising the funds needed for a permanent memorial. Let us never forget Aureo Duque who died in service of our precious community. Thank you.
