A Last Wish: Return Home
Donation protected
I have known Desiree and her family for 25 years. When she and I became friends, we wove our days around the sand and sunset of Pacific Beach and Mission Beach, CA. Her mother, Pauline, and father, called “Brother” by those who know him well, gave us food (we were teenagers!), a place to hang out in their home, wisdom that was often overlooked, and the embrace of family. I called Desiree’s mom, “Mom,” and her dad, “Dad.”
It is for this dad—from friendship—that I write for help.
Brother has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. His body, once cooled by the breezes off the CA ocean, is failing in these last days of his life. His last wish, as he and his family now lives in North Carolina, is to return to San Diego once again.
He and Pauline have been together for 42 years; they grew up together after getting married at a young age. They have always been one of my favorite love stories, and their story endures today. They have two children, Desiree and Max, and five grandchildren.
The family is asking for $10,000 to cover the following:
-Transport Costs to San Diego
-Moving Costs
-Hospice Costs
-Final Costs
Any donation is a great help, and gets Brother one step closer to his wish. Please consider donating whatever you can: $50, $100, $1,000 to help this loving father, grandfather, and husband return to the sunsets of his younger, healthier days.
Thank you.
