A Leap of Faith

We are taking a leap of Faith on a sweet rescue pup whose difficult journey left her with a full ACL tear.
Last weekend, we picked up Faith, a beautiful, two year-old mixed breed who was rescued from a high kill shelter just south of Houston, TX, by the National Great Pyrenees Rescue. She had been shipped to a foster home in Mt. Vernon, WA four days before, and was so traumatized, she couldn't be near us without cowering and rolling over. Her energy levels were very low, she had obviously had puppies not long before she was picked up by the rescue, and she didn't seem to know how to play, walk on a leash or really, how to be a dog.
After a couple of hours, she warmed up to us enough for loves, so, going with our intuition, we brought her home to see if she was the right fit for our family on a 48 hour trial period. We drove her straight to VCA North Portland Veterinary hospital for a check up where, much to our surprise, she was diagnosed with a torn ACL! After very emotional conversations with the vet, her foster mom and folks from the rescue, we found out that locally, surgery for a full ACL tear is upwards of $4,000 with 3 - 6 months of recovery.
Only 6 hours into our 48 hour trial period, we faced the decision of returning her to the rescue so she could be shipped back to Texas for surgery or pay her adoption ($300) and transport fees ($200) and figure out the cost of her surgery on our own.
While we had factored in the additional cost of working with a trainer so this sweet girl could live and thrive in our urban home, the cost of repairing her ACL is not in our budget and, according to the surgeon, with a full tear, she can't wait past the summer or she runs the risk of a more complicated surgery and recovery time.
So, here we are. Please, if you are able, help us keep Faith in the Pacific Northwest. We are asking for donations to help offset the cost of her procedure, which includes medicine, ex-rays, surgery and follow up visits. Newberg Veterinary Hospital offered us the same rate they offer non-profit rescues and generously waived the fee for her initial diagnostic visit but the cost is still out of our capacity right now.
In less than one week, under the guidance of our 2 year old Scottish Terrier, Faith has completely transformed. With the addition of pain medication, she now plays beautifully with Maxwell, throws stuffies around our living room, and comes to us for love and reassurance. This sweet girl has captured our hearts in a very short period of time and with your help, she will finally receive the love and care that she deserves.
Thank you in advance for any help that you are able to provide. We are extremely grateful.
With love and hope,
Faith, Maxwell, Shalynn & Kailin
