A library for our young people

Here at Baginton fields, we have a fantastic school with our incredible young people at the heart of it. We are a Maintained Broad Spectrum Special School for 116 secondary students, in Coventry. These students deserve their staff to strive for excellence and present them with as many opportunities as we can. Our school is dedicated to delivering inspirational learning experiences and so we are constantly looking for ways to enrich the environment that we provide.
One of the challenges I have faced, since taking on the role of Literacy co-ordinator, is the absence of a library! Our students love to read so having a library would give them the environment they need to help them thrive in their reading. A resourceful, quiet and comfy area, where students have the opportunity to browse our selection of books.
Having a library can also help provide students with an environment that their home life may not provide. Giving our young people the right environment to read in could be the difference in the progress of many students.
Having a home for all of our books would allow students to gather and share a passion for reading, as well as providing a huge drive in promoting reading across our school. It would be a hub of pure imagination, which is essential for all children to have the opportunity to experience. We want to create an area where students are fully immersed in their reading. An area where they have an opportunity to become the character they are reading about and experience the full escapism that a book can provide.
I believe that no one is a non-reader, it's simply a case of how to support each individual access reading. Reading truly is for all and having an area, that ties all of the different ways our young people read together, will be a transformative addition to our school, but we need your help!
