A Library Project For Kanyaa Primary School
Donation protected
Summary
My name is Bernard Kitheka. My family (Suzanne, Ty, and Jaxen) and I are helping fundraise for Kanyaa Primary School, which is located in my rural village in Kitui County, Kenya. Serving approximately 350 students, the school has no functional library. With no physical library space, the few available books are stored in two small portable wooden boxes, which circulate in each class once a week. In this age of technology and connectivity, it is difficult to imagine how students would make it through school and fit in a fast-changing world without even the basic learning materials. Just as an aside, most of the students still go to school without shoes and most families struggle to purchase basic school supplies! The aim of this initiative is twofold: 1) to supply the school with reading books and reference materials to make sure there is at least one book for each child, and 2) to remodel one of the classrooms to create a library with shelves and ample working spaces. I believe this is the first project of its kind for such a rural public school in Kenya, thus it could become a model for other schools. Thank you for your consideration and kind support!
Update
As of September 2024, the library if fully functional; there are over 3000 books in the library; we have started collecting funds to help the school remodel a second classroom into a tech-room; some of the remodeling work has been completed (the roofing), the principal has send me quotation for desks; the principal is working on a quotation for wiring and chairs; we are looking for donations of new and used laptops/idea pads (preferably not more than 5 years old). Thanks for your support. Please share with your friends and networks.
