A little boy needs you
An immigrant family in my community* needs help.
Their sweet 5 year old- whose parents hoped and prayed for him years before he actually came into the world- was just diagnosed with leukemia.
The family's livelihood depends on both parents' ability to work physically demanding jobs, but now one parent must stay in the hospital or at home with their child 24/7, probably for months. We are raising money to help cover some of their urgently-needed lost income and the little boy's medical expenses.
I can't share names or pictures because of the family's personal situation. But:
I can tell you this smiling little boy loves dinosaurs and his family and his school.
I can tell you that his parents are among the loveliest, hardest-working people I know.
I can tell you about how I sat on the couch with this little boy's mom the day after the 2016 election and cried with her, heartbroken and fearful about what was to come.
And I can tell you that it is basically an accident of history that my immigrant family is now secure in America while this family is not.
Thank you for donating whatever you can.
(And for those who give Jewishly, supporting this family meets the actual dictionary definition of tzedakah: putting money in the hands of poor people.)
* I can't share a picture of this family. But I can share this picture of my beloved great-grandparents, who fled life-threatening conditions in their native country. They immigrated to America around the turn of the 20th century, shortly before new and racist immigration laws would have turned them away not long after.
