A Little Help for Ahmik

Last year my son, JW, wanted to try boxing.  I told him, “if you're going to try it, you're going to try the real thing”.  The problem is that, for the most part, the only "real" boxing gyms are located in inner-city's or urban areas.  But we got lucky.  We found X-Fit Boxing located in Union and we met the owner and trainer, Ahmik, a former Golden Gloves champion and retired professional fighter.  JW was immediately drawn to the sport and to Ahmik.  His disciplined but genuine approach to coaching is unmistakably special, and it’s contagious with the kids.  Ahmik's dream is to expand his gym to accommodate more kids. They are literally lining up at his door.

He was on his way when the bad news came.  First, he learned his mother would lose both of her legs due to complications with diabetes.  As the oldest of her children, Ahmik carries the mantle of keeping everyone positive and together as they support their mom.  Then, he and his wife, Hope, learned that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and required a double mastectomy immediately.   He would need to muster even more courage, strength and spirit to support her and his kids through this very trying and taxing journey. 

Ahmik never complains.  He never misses a training or coaching session with the kids.  He maintains and unbelievable positive outlook and persona.  Without realizing it Ahmik and his family have created a place where kids from all walks of life can come in and learn a great skill.  But only if they work hard!  He inspires them to do so.
