A Living Tribute – Warr Memorial Field of Dreams
Donation protected
Betty Ruth Warr Slingerland passed away peacefully in her home holding her husband’s hand in the early hours of Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the age of 82.
A celebration of life will be held on April 15th, 2023 at 4PM at the Allen B. Warr Memorial Park in Erda, Utah. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to this fundraising tribute to help keep her family’s beloved field of dreams a thriving part of her community.
Betty loved her small town of Erda, Utah where she spent most of her life. Along with her parents and siblings, they built Erda’s “Field of Dreams”– the Allen B. Warr Memorial Park, named after her grandfather. This park was where Erda came together on Tuesday and Thursday summer evenings to take in a softball game and enjoy the famous Erda Burger and brownies. Betty’s mother, Emma and her sister Diane cooked up the food. Her dad, Norm and brother Tom kept the fields pristine, and Betty could always be found in the scorekeeper’s booth, managing the scoreboard and keeping the scorer’s book. Her children Rob, Stacey and Toby spent countless hours playing at the ballpark and were practically raised on Erda burgers with its secret sauce. Today, multiple generations of Betty’s family, including nieces, nephews and cousins continue to keep the ballpark going as a vibrant part of the Erda community.
One of Betty’s greatest joys in life was playing softball at Warr Memorial Park and keeping her grandfather’s and father’s legacy alive. As a coach and pitcher, she led her Interwest and Green Street teams to multiple championships, typically defeating their archrival, First Security.
Please consider making a donation to our family’s beloved ballpark. Your thoughtful generosity is deeply appreciated. ‘Take me out to the ballgame.’
