A memorial bench for Brigett Guitron

Honoring Brigett
Mention the name Brigett Guitron and it will evoke different memories for us all. But most likely we agree that battling stage four cancer for eight years is heroic. It is intense, grueling treatment that is not for the faint of heart. But Brigett endured to see her daughters marry and five grandchildren born. That is an incredible accomplishment given the diagnosis in 2015.
But cancer does not define Brigett. For nearly forty years she lived at Descanso Gardens where she was married and raised her children. She was knowledgeable about the natural world and contributed to the community for decades as a stalwart volunteer using that expertise. She had a wonderful sense of humor and life was fun when Brigett was around, but most remember her as a steadfast family member and friend who would move mountains or turn back the tide if you needed it. Through our heartbreak at losing her, we agreed that a simple but meaningful memorial needs to be created to honor her. Where better than Descanso Gardens? A bench with a plaque in honor of Brigett is being planned so that anyone might rest and enjoy the lovely surroundings, and those of us who love Brigett can sit and remember our good times together. We think she would like that.
