A Memorial Bench for Kim McLeod

Have you ever met the one person that just gets you? Someone who can hold space for you when you cry, can nurture deep belly laughs over something innocuous or who always calls or shows up at the right time with chocolate? If you had met Kim McLeod, then you had met that person. Kim was a special human being put on this earth to make it better. She was a mother, sister, friend and fierce advocate for special needs families. Kim strived every day to support people in their battles and to celebrate with them in their triumphs. She was fearless in her push for change – holding everyone accountable for their role in doing better, being better and making the world a better place. She was bold and direct in her advocacy work but also never lost sight of the notion that people might be trying their best and needed help to do better. She was a parent educator and thrived in helping other parents have healthy relationships with their kids – regardless of abilities. And she never failed to surround people with love and compassion in every interaction. She truly cherished relationships with other humans.

We lost a light in the world when Kim suddenly and unexpectedly left us in September 2021. But she also left us with so many life lessons that she wouldn’t want us to forget. Live! Breathe! Love! Go for a walk – and relish in the world around you. And when you need to – rest.

This GoFundMe account was set up in order to purchase a memorial bench in honor of Kim to be placed in Brittania Park facing the water this spring. The cost of a bench is approximately $5000.00 and we will close the account once we reach our goal. She would love the idea of a special resting place for those walking in this world. And we feel strongly that if you go there – you will feel her too.
