A Miracle for Murphy

Murphy Nowak was diagnosed Stage 4, High Risk, Neuroblastoma in September of 2022. By the grace of God Murphy is alive and smiling today, after undergoing the international protocol for treating this cancer. 18 months of full-time treatment has seen Murphy overcome 5 rounds of Chemotherapy, 2 x Stem Cell Transplants, high-dose Chemotherapy, surgery for the removal of the primary tumour, Radiotherapy, Immunotherapy, bone marrow biopsies and countless other procedures. As a result of this intense treatment Murphy has suffered permanent hearing loss, kidney damage and sever muscle wastage, to only name a few of the heartbreaking side effects. We have had faith in trusting the 'process' of the treatment protocol despite the fact that Murphy still has active cancer in January of 2024. Within the Australian parameters for treatment, Murphy's protocol finishes in February 2024, and we are desperate to seek further treatment to give Murphy the full life that he deserves. The reality Murphy faces is that there is an extremely high risk of relapse for Murphy's staging of Neuroblastoma, and only 5% long-term survival post relapse. There is hope. After Murphy is in remission, he has been accepted into the groundbreaking clinical trial of DFMO for relapse prevention in High-Risk Neuroblastoma, that is conducted out of Penn State University, in conjunction with Beat Childhood Cancer. Dr Giselle Sholler has seen many children remain in remission for years after the end of their protocol, giving Murphy a real chance at a bright future ahead living cancer free.
