A Miracle for Winky!

On May 27, 2023, little Wynter “Winky” Matthews celebrated her second birthday with an elaborate party surrounded by family and friends. She partied so hard that she immediately fell asleep on the drive home! What she woke up to, however, could never have been imagined.

Careful not to disturb her beauty rest, her parents unloaded the car and they hear the sound of a gunshot, not knowing their baby was hit! They return to find their sleeping princess covered in blood and in an awkward position from a gunshot wound to the side. While the bullet was not intended for her, she ended up taking the hit. Her parents’ frantic 911 call went unanswered, leaving them to transport her to a nearby hospital where she was stabilized and later airlifted to the local children’s hospital where she remains to this day.

A day of celebration ended in damage to her liver, spine, kidney, and lungs! The little princess who had been singing “Happy Birthday” for most of the day was unable to speak or breathe without the assistance of a ventilator when the day ended.

Spinal cord damage has caused challenges with her mobility, and her family is praying and trusting God for a miracle! As they continue to spend countless hours at the hospital advocating for her care, the Matthews family has landed in a place of emotional and financial devastation due to medical and living expenses – enhanced by a sudden need to leave their apartment with a demand for payment to the apartment complex for breaking their lease. The shooters have not been identified, and their expenses continue to multiply as time progresses.

WINKY IS IN PICU AND ONCE AGAIN ON A VENTILATOR! She will require special accommodations upon her release. We are requesting financial support as we continue to pray and provide for her care. No amount is too big or too small. Thanks in advance for your support and prayers!
