A Mother's Desperation to get Her Daughter out of Gaza

My name is Mervat Altarazi, and I am a dedicated citizen of Australia, working as a case worker to support immigrants and refugees settling in our country. Today, I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea and a mission of urgency.

I have launched this GoFundMe campaign to ensure my beloved daughter’s safety and to facilitate her evacuation from the turmoil in Gaza. Transparency is paramount, so allow me to share the situation and provide a detailed breakdown of the estimated costs required to secure my daughter’s safe passage and to help in rebuilding her family’s shattered life.

Currently my daughter Hanaa is trapped in Gaza. Thankfully, Australia's immediate family visa provisions and the invaluable assistance from DFAT enabled us to grant her and her family visas, which led to the evacuation of Hanaa's husband and two young children from Gaza. However, a sudden and unexplained visa cancellation left Hanaa stranded and isolated, whilst her immediate family members were permitted to leave.

For the past 9 months, Hanaa has endured extreme and perilous conditions, seeking refuge in a church. She has lost everything - her loved ones, her home, her livelihood, her law office, and their jobs. Depleted funds force her to ration scarce and costly food supplies, and her future is uncertain.

We urgently need your help to reunite Hanaa's family torn apart by the ravages of war. Hanaa must leave Gaza immediately, with our plan being for her to stay in Egypt until visa issues are resolved. She cannot do this alone; financial support is needed for daily expenses and to secure her safe departure from Gaza.

Your generosity and compassion can make the impossible possible, offering a lifeline of hope amidst despair. We are desperate to get Hanaa out of Gaza safely and to reunite her with her anxious and loving family.

It's been a difficult realization that fundraising is the only viable option to safeguard Hanaa's life from the dangers and poverty she faces. With her family here in Sydney and Hanaa still trapped in Gaza, fundraising has become necessary to ensure her rescue.

The main objective of this fundraising campaign is to facilitate the safe relocation of my daughter to Australia from the escalating dangers of Gaza. As conditions worsen by the day and daily expenses become prohibitively challenging, we are compelled to act swiftly. We aim to provide a transparent breakdown of the estimated costs needed to secure Hanaa’s safe passage and to help her family restart their lives in Australia.

Note: Currently the Rafah border is closed. This is the normal manner in which people are allowed to leave Gaza to go to Egypt and travel onwards to other countries. We are hoping the Rafah border opens again soon.

• Evacuation fee/Egyptian coordination + transfer fees: $10,000 AUD

• Transportation from Church to Rafah Crossing: $2000

• Living expenses and rent in Egypt: approximately $5000 depending how long she will stay in Egypt (as we are still trying to reinstate her visa)

• Monthly living expenses (e.g. bills and food etc.) in Australia would be approximately $3500.

• Rent: min $550 a week.
