A New Heart for Mercedes The Sweetheart

Hi,

Our names are Mercedes, Juan, Ana, Francisco and Isabella but the story is about our mom and it takes place in Caracas, Venezuela:

In mid February, our mom did not feel good and went to see two cardiologists. They both coincided that she needed surgery to insert an aortic valve ASAP. The valve itself, without the cost of surgery and hospital fees, is $35.000. That is why we decided to start this fundraising since she could not get surgery if we did not purchase the valve first.

At midnight on February 19, 2024, Mercedes had to be rushed to the hospital. She could not breathe and almost made it. She entered the emergency room and was in ICU for three days. Even though her doctor was ready for the surgery, she was sent home because we still did not have the money to afford the valve or the surgery.

¡Mercedes is 75 and full of life!

Her energy and positivity prevails and she is always active doing a project at her house, taking care of her plants, decorating a room or watching her favorite shows. Mercedes loves her family and friends more than anything in the world as well as taking care of her cats and dog, Cocoa.

Unfortunately, Mercedes does not have insurance that covers for a pre-existing condition. We are all doing our best to support her but the cost of this treatment in Venezuela is extremely high.
