A New Liver for Ann

Donation protected
When it rains, it pours.

Ann is a mother who would go to the ends of the Earth for her children. Most of us can only imagine the devastation of losing a child, and on September 19, 2019, Ann would become a parent who would not only have to imagine it, but a parent who had to live and cope with it. Her oldest son, Jacob, died unexpectedly.

Within a few weeks of Jacob's passing, Ann's health began to deteriorate. It began with jaundice, and the tests exploring that symptom led to a diagnosis of cirrhosis of the liver. The treatment to control the cirrhosis would lead to ascites, the accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, which made her unable to keep any food or drink in her system. Over a couple weeks time she became very weak. Even with the help of the specialists in Belize, where she and Lan resided, she wasn't getting better, so Lan took her to a specialist in Mexico, and she was admitted to the ER in Chetumal for signs of kidney failure. Her kidneys were failing because her liver was failing...

A liver transplant is the only option.

In Mexico, organ transplants are reserved only for Mexican citizens, so, on Monday, October 21st, Ann was medically evacuated to Houston Methodist Hospital where she is now being treated and where we hope she gets a new liver.

Here's How You Can Help

It costs $250,000 to even get Ann on the list for a liver transplant. If she gets on the list, she is projected to be prioritized because of her condition. The full cost of this procedure is $500,000. This cost does not include the costs that have accumulated to date, nor the cost of follow-up treatment, but we have to start somewhere.

Can you help? Any donation amount would be deeply appreciated, and if you cannot donate, might you share this with your networks? Our family would be forever grateful.

Thank you, in advance, for your time, love, prayers, and support,

Ann's Current Condition

The first few days at Houston Methodist Hospital were steps in a positive direction, going from being nearly in a coma to being able to hold a short conversation, but today, October 26th, she is showing signs of fluid filling her lungs, so she is undergoing more treatment to help her body evacuate those fluids.
