A New Tractor for Harland’s Farm
povertfarm.com Hello,
My name is Nicole, and for the last few years I have been helping care for my neighbor, my friend, my adopted grandfather, Mr. Harland "the Boss" Currie. At 82, Harland has led a very storied life, and his love and passion for his equine companions has been a constant throughout his life. Harland himself is in remarkable health and has overcome many challenges - including surviving a life-threatening brain tumor at the age of 68 - but the same can not be said for the equipment that he uses to care for his farm and provide for his companions.
Harland runs a John Deere tractor that is over 50 years old. The tractor has no power steering, no 4 wheel drive, and no shade from the elements. Harland puts in 6-8 days on the tractor several times a week cutting hay, spreading manure, and generally maintaining his property to ensure his equine residents are well cared for. To make life a little easier and to improve Harland's own quality of life, we want to bring him a little closer to the 21st century with a "new to him" tractor. Hopefully, a new tractor model will keep Harland protected from the elements and make his work at the farm much easier to get done!
The pandemic has brought on exceptionally tough times for everyone, and for Harland it's no exception. As the cost of living soars around him, his monthly income as a retiree stays fixed. While he strives to provide the best quality of life for his equine family members and we work hard to make sure Harland is well taken care of, the cost of purchasing a tractor - new OR used - isn't something Harland or his family are prepared to take on financially. I'm reaching out in hopes of finding some assistance, no matter how small, to give something to someone who has given me personally so much. I have known Harland for almost 17 years, and during that time he has generously shared his knowledge, his time, and his horses with me. Every donation will bring us a step closer to giving back to someone who has given us so much.
Thank you in advance for helping us provide Harland with a safer tractor that he can operate more comfortably. We appreciate any assistance given more than we can say.
