My name is Janette and this is a picture of my son Ryan and me. Ryan is a delightful young man who is not defined by his intellectual disability but he does have problems communicating. It is people like him that need help advocating for themselves. I am the president of Our Voice Australia, an organisation that has been running for over 30 years and this is our aim. We speak with those who are often left out of the conversations regarding their lives and their choices. It is an important mission and up until now we have been totally self-funded. This year we have a new website and updated our IT. All of it comes with significant initial outlay and ongoing costs and we are asking for a little assistance to keep the ball rolling at least for this year.

Every little bit will help and will be greatly appreciated by your Our Voice Australia team who have funded everything out of their own pockets to date.

We are about to step up our campaigning with the release of the Disability Royal Commission recommendations. We want to make sure we are ready to support all workers that want to exercise their choice to work in a workplace of their choosing and insist that supported workplaces must remain as a viable option. We also want to be in the best position to advocate for members' rights with changes to NDIS and other policy decisions that affect our members.

To do this we need to remain open for business which means our ongoing administration expenses (website maintenance and hosting, software licenses (for surveys etc) and other IT-related expenses) need to be covered. We are totally self-funded. All our expenses to date have been funded directly out of the pockets of our small group of volunteers and the kind support of the former Activ Rockingham Parents' Group.

We would like to raise enough money to meet our ongoing expenses. Funds will also be used to make sure we have representation when we need to reply to the findings of the likes of the Fair Work Commission and Disability Royal Commission.

We need to make sure the conversation always includes those who are so often overlooked - people with intellectual disability and/or complex needs.
