I am setting up this fund raiser up for my good friend and neighbor Desiree Smith-Lopez who recently lost her husband Mike to COVID. Mike was her life, her love and best friend. She had no clue when she took him to the hospital, having to leave him at the emergency doors and handing him over to the nurses and doctors that it would be the last time she would ever be able to touch him again. Never being able to say goodbye.
If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Mike you would know he was a funny character. He would always give me and Desiree a hard time when we sat outside just talking away about work. He would say we weren't allowed to talk about work while we were home. It is the one thing I will always remember about him. Being her neighbor I never saw one without the other. Mike was very loved and will be truly missed.
I am setting up this fund raiser for those who are asking how they can help Desiree during this time. There is no time limit on grief and grieving has it roller coasters. What do you say to someone who has lost their loved one, I truly don't know. I do know that she does need to eat, and I know it is so hard for her to gather up the strength to cook for herself. Gift cards to a local food place that does grub hub or door dash is a great way. Donating here, leaving her a note, just knowing she has friends who are thinking of her is truly what she needs. I do know she wants to take some of his ashes and turn them in to jewelry so that she can keep him close to her heart. If you would like to make that happen for her, this is a great place to start. I just want Desiree to know we are all thinking of her.
