A Reporting Trip to Ukraine
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I’m embarking on a new reporting trip to Ukraine in October. First, I’ll be in Poland for a conference at Auschwitz, which will be fascinating and helpful to my overall reporting on genocide, but my travel costs are not covered.
Then I have a specific story I plan to report while in Ukraine — an important story that hasn’t been told yet — and while I am applying for a grant, whether I get it depends on whether the grantor deems my interested outlet as meeting their security and support requirements. (Last year, my outlet was unable to meet these expectations.) My work last summer directly contributed to the national and International Criminal Court investigations of Russian war crimes.
Any help you can give me is tremendously appreciated. Your financial support would cover the costs of medevac insurance, trains/planes/automobiles, a fixer and translator, a place to stay, and more. Here's some further detail: https://chills.substack.com/p/reporting-from-ukraine-a-checklist?utm_source=%2Fsearch%2Fukraine&utm_medium=reader2
I realized recently that I don’t think I’ve ever made money on any of my many reporting trips. I’ve spent years paying out of pocket to report stories that I think need to be told. Now I’m at a point where I could really use a little support.
Thank you for caring about the people of Ukraine in this terrible time. And thank you for caring that their stories be told fully and sensitively.
