A request to help people we love - the Liddington family.
Donation protected
Update: We started this fundraising for the Liddington family when Simon was diagnosed with CJD. In that time Simon was diagnosed with CJD and 9 days later he tragically passed away.
The memorial for Simon was last week and Holly and the children are settling into the challenges of a life without Simon.
So far we have raised nearly $76,000 from around 450 donations and we continue to generously receive donations from all over the world from family, friends, colleagues and others who had some connection to Simon, Holly, Oscar and Poppy. We are still accepting people's donations for a few weeks as a journalist from the Newcastle Herald will be writing a piece on Simon in the coming weeks and giving people who want to contribute the link.
This is how we started and read on for Holly's sharing the day Simon passed away -
We are reaching out to you, family, friends, work associates and communities, to contribute what you can financially and share this with people who may (or even may not) know Simon, Holly and their family.
Simon Liddington, a devoted husband, father, and friend, has been diagnosed with Sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare, fast moving, fatal condition with no cure.
Already Simon is legally blind and his balance is seriously compromised, needing a walking stick and Holly by his side constantly. His cognition is currently slightly diminished and he has slurred speech.
This diagnosis has brought immense challenges, shattered dreams and placed an unimaginable strain on the family - his beloved wife Holly, and their two young children, Oscar, nearly 7, who is in year 1 and Poppy, age 5 who will start "big' school next year.
Simon & the family have lived in Bonnells Bay in NSW for the last 10 years and are well known and active in their local community.
Simon has had a lifelong love of sailing and races a Moth class sailing boat - a super-fast hydro-foiling boat! He serves as President of the South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing Club.
Simon and Holly met at Landmark Worldwide, sharing a passion for making a difference in people's lives. Holly worked as the Sydney Centre Manager and Simon led Seminars. Together, they’ve built a life of purpose and connection, rooted in their values for making a difference in people's lives. You and the people in your life in some way may have been touched by their commitment over many years.
Simon is the sole provider for his family through his work as a software engineer and his illness brings a host of financial burdens - medical bills, carer assistance, home modifications to meet Simon's need and additional living expenses- as Holly steps up to manage both Simon’s care and the children whilst they navigate this uncertain future.
They need financial support to cover these unexpected costs and ensure Oscar and Poppy have the security they deserve during this difficult time.
Now, they need us to rally around them. Your generosity will help Simon and Holly manage the challenges ahead, allowing them to focus on what matters most—each other and their children.
Any contribution, large or small, will make a meaningful difference. Thank you for supporting the Liddingtons as they face this journey.
And when Simon passed away from Holly -
"Simon has passed away very peacefully & beautifully an hour after his dear Mum & Dad from UK arrived by his side. We all had the chance to cuddle, kiss him & stroke his head & hands. After he passed the kids came in to spend some sweet time with Daddy. We took lovely photos.
Sending all our love, thanks & appreciation to all. Time for a rest & Prosecco & cuddles with my darling babies."
Please feel free to share any of this with your community, this GoFundMe page will be left open for a while longer.
Thank you all for your support, caring and generosity for the Liddington family.
