Ever since I was a child I knew I was different. I didn't know or acknowledge what made me unlike my friends and family. Then in my mid twenties a catastrophic event led me to my truth. I'm transgender. I am happy to say now I have accepted and love the fact that I'm a Black Trans Women; it no longer makes me feel different- it makes me feel special. I have been given a platform to help other trans people in the community to accept and love their truth. However, I have not been able to come up with the funds that will cement my personal journey to womanhood so I am raising money in collaboration with the Lawrence Arts Center to have procedures that ensure trans people are able to live as authentic as possible. This fall I have a one woman show being performed at the Lawrence Art Center about my journey to womanhood called "10,000" this title originates from a quote by Maya Angelou which says "I come as one but I stand as 10,000" I know my ancestors are rooting me on but more important is that I stand on the shoulders of trans women who suffered to get me to this place- where I can live as authentic as possible. I have the doctors, I've undergone hormone replacement therapy and now I just need the funds to complete my my journey as, what I feel, will make me feel like a true woman. If you can spare even a dime it would help me in my cause and I promise to all always fight for transwomen in the future who are suffering because, like me, they have been kicked out of homes, fired from jobs and sexually assaulted. I also want to make it easier for trans woman to obtain the necessary procedures that cause them dysphoria ( where ones outsides don't match their insides) I ask that you give from the heart knowing that its going to a trans woman activist and artist who will always use what I have to help others less fortunate. I also beseech you to watch my One Woman Show " 10,000" when it premiers in October at the Lawrence Art Center. I also want to give a shout out to the LAC for allowing me to utilize their platform to further the cause and support me in my journey to authenticity. Thank you, Love ya, and God Bless. <3
