Challenge 2023: Stand Up 4 Elephants (SU4E) settles permanently!

Cost of the Project : $172,500 USD for 5 ha of land on the edge of the jungle of the Chitwan National Park.

After 5 years of activity SU4E wants to expand its operation, i.e., to welcome more elephants rescued from the tourist industry, on a bigger piece of land, without any compromise on the quality of the care provided.

When we began work on the SU4E HOME in 2018, we had to settle on leasing a piece of land, for a given duration. Today, we need to consider our relocation and our goal is to settle for the long term on a piece of land that belongs to the NGO, allowing us to build a permanent infrastructure capable of accommodating up to fifteen rescued elephants

Indeed, SU4E’s operation is a success ! After 5 years of work, the building and management of a well-functioning Hattissar (Elephant Home), the welcoming and healing of two exhausted elephants, we are ready to move up a gear !

As always however, hard work and dedication are not enough, finances must follow. All things considered, land is unusually expensive in Nepal, even if moving away from the tourist center where we are currently established. Moreover, we have a number of constraints as we need to be on the edge of the jungle and along a river as well as remaining at a reasonable distance from a city so as to have access to electricity and government veterinarians.

After investigating and visiting a few areas compatible with the specific needs of our residents, it appears that the average price that we must consider is € 30,000 ($ 34,500) per hectare, i.e. a minimum of € 150,000 ($ 172,500) for the needed piece of land.

No 53433, is a Nepali Non-Governmental Organization established in March 2022 with its head quarter at Khairahani 13, Bairiya, Chitwan in Nepal and dedicated to the improvement of living conditions of captive elephants in Nepal. On a wider scale, SU4E NP aims at the conservation of the Asian Elephant in its natural environment as well as at improving its welfare in captive environment.

Un vent d'espoir pour 2023: aidez-nous à acheter un grand terrain où nous pourrons sauver plus d'éléphants!

Après 5 ans d’activité, Stand Up 4 Elephants veut se donner les moyens de voir plus grand, et surtout plus nombreux !!! Cela veut dire : plus d’éléphants sauvés de l’esclavage touristique, sur un plus grand terrain, sans pour autant réduire notre exigence de qualité.

Pour démarrer, en 2018, nous avons dû nous installer sur une terrain loué, pour une durée déterminée. Aujourd’hui nous devons envisager notre déménagement et notre objectif est de nous relocaliser de façon pérenne, sur un terrain qui nous appartienne et dont la surface nous permette de construire une infrastructure capable d’accueillir une quinzaine de pensionnaires à trompe.

Et oui, l’expérience est une succès ! Après 5 ans de travail, la construction, de nos mains, et la gestion d'un sanctuaire tout confort, l’accueil et la remise sur pied de 2 rescapées épuisées par une vie de travail et de mauvais traitements, nous sommes prêts à passer à la vitesse supérieure !

À quoi servira le financement:

Mais, comme toujours, le dévouement et le courage ne suffisent pas, il faut que les finances suivent. Toutes proportions gardées, la terre est chère au Népal, même en nous éloignant significativement du centre touristique où nous sommes pour le moment.

Nous avons des contraintes bien entendu. Il nous faut, à la fois, être en bordure de jungle et de rivière, et rester à une distance raisonnable permettant notamment de bénéficier du réseau électrique et de faire venir les vétérinaires du gouvernement si et quand nécessaire.

Après investigation et visite des quelques régions compatibles avec les besoins de nos pensionnaires, il résulte que le prix moyen que nous devons considérer est de € 30.000 ($ 34.500) à l’hectare, soit un minimum de € 150.000 ($ 172.500) pour la totalité du terrain.

Plus largement, SU4E a pour objectif la préservation de l’Eléphant Asiatique dans son milieu naturel et l’amélioration de son bien-être en milieu captif.
