A Smile for Jodi Orgill Brown

Donation protected
I have never initiated a GoFundMe before.

But it’s time.

Let me introduce you to my colleague and friend Jodi Orgill Brown.

Jodi experienced a devastating brain tumor resulting in the paralysis of the right side of her face.

As I visited with Jodi just yesterday, it has impacted virtually every sense and facial motor skill.  It has impacted

her hearing,
her vision,
her tactile ability,
her smell,
her taste,
her family,
and her relationships.

Simply, there is not a waking or sleeping moment, where she is unimpacted by the outcome of this serious medical condition.

While we and everyone are thrilled that she is still with us, the quality of life she enjoys could be immensely improved with some facial nerve grafting procedures.

If her facial muscles could be re-innervated, it would improve her ability to swallow, hold food in her mouth without choking or drooling, allow her to smile more symmetrically, and most importantly her deepest wish: “to kiss my husband again.“

The specialists who conduct this surgery are not only out of state, but out of network for her insurance coverage. While they have considered extreme financial sacrifice to meet the monetary needs, I am certain they would love to preserve some level of financial future.

Medical costs even with insurance are significant. The $7500 goal for this fundraising event is a mere pittance of the need.

But we start somewhere.

I will contribute the first $300.  If just 25 people contributed the same amount, we would easily reach our goal.

But I challenge you beyond that.  Would you consider making not only an initial donation, but a monthly donation through the end of the year?  Even $25 would be substantial.

More is generous. Less is deeply appreciated.

It’s truly worth a few cupcake stands and bake sales.  But since that’s difficult with our Covid situation, consider donating the amount of money you made otherwise spend on creating the baked goods.

Please consider:

1.  Make one initial donation.
2.  Commit to making a monthly donation (of any amount) through the end of 2020.
3.  Consider that change jar in your nightstand and its value.
4.  Consider involving children with their small but meaningful contributions.
5.  Consider a group that you belong to, or a neighborhood that might come together to contribute.
6.  Consider sharing this post on your social media sites.
7.   Consider reaching out to at least three friends with the specific request to join us in a helping the Brown family.
8.  Tag Jodi Orgill Brown with your expressions of support and best wishes, and follow her story.

Thank you all for just ANYTHING.  And my hope is that your contribution will somehow come back to you at least three times.
