A third round of breast cancer care
Hello, all, and thank you for reading.
My aunt Suzanne (middle sister, both in the photo and in life) is about to head into her third battle with breast cancer. The first round was more almost 20 years ago, in 2003/4. I remember my mom calling me while I was in San Diego looking for an apartment. She let me know that Suzy was about to take on the fight of her life against her own body. Ultimately I decided to stay in WI (for completely unrelated reasons), and Suzy bested the bump in her breast.
But while we thought that she had given the cancer a final KO back then, it re-emerged a few years later. Suzy did another round of treatment, and got a single mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. And again we celebrated her miraculous comeback from cancer.
But now, once again, Suzy is heading into battle. This time, a tumor was found in her breast and another was found on her thyroid. (The one on her thyroid isn't very concerning, according to the doctors, but they're going to remove it nonetheless.) We're all very hopeful since it was caught early, but a third round of treatments, days off from work, medical bills and the like are on the horizon.
Despite the diagnosis, Suzy is cracking jokes and making fun of her run of bad luck. Not even cancer can take away her sense of humor. But this time through, Suzy isn't financially ready for the hit she's about to take. This is why we, her family, are reaching out for help.
Every little bit will make a huge difference. And we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts for just reading.
