A trailer for Randy

I’m Valerie Hooper and I am setting this up on behalf of my uncle and my mother.

A few months ago, my mother became aware that her brother, my uncle, was living in very poor conditions. His trailer was old, falling apart, the roof had blown off in a storm and he had a tarp on the roof (which was not air or water tight in any way), insulation was falling out of the ceiling, the bathroom toilet had fallen through the floor, there was mold throughout the bathroom and the list goes on and on. This old trailer is the one in the picture.

My mother set out to find him a better trailer. She found a 1996 model at a reasonable price, $4,400. Then of course, it costs another $4,400 to transport the trailer from Perry County to New Johnsonville.

The trailer was in pretty good shape, but still needed some work. Electrical, plumbing, flooring and some other things needed doing.

My mother hired a man to do this work.

What has happened is, this man was taking advantage of my mother and my uncle. They paid him over FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS in labor alone over the past 8 weeks (not including the supplies that my mother also paid for). This should have been way more than enough to do the repair work on this little 750 square foot trailer.

Instead, this man would come to the trailer and drink and smoke his cigars (we have witnesses who have come forward) and do basically nothing. The electrical and plumbing are absolutely not finished and the bathroom and small kitchen area are not functional.

My mother is a widow and a flood victim. My uncle is a combat Vietnam veteran. They are both in their 70s and on a budget.

I have set this up to help them be able to hire a contractor who will actually do the work and to help replace the money they were scammed out of.
