Fundraising Walk from Emerson, Manitoba to Manitoba Legislative Building (106.2 KM)
Date: October 1-3, 2022
Migrant Stories Canada in collaboration with Grace & Nelly Project is fundraising to raise money to empower and educate women and girls in communities in Zimbabwe, to also improve the elevation of newcomer voices in Canada.
As a fundraise, Immaculate Nabisere – Founder & CEO of the Migrant Stories Canada & Ruvimbo Chimutsa, Founder & President will walk 106.2 KMs. This walk is very instrumental and a symbol for many. Many refugees walk miles seeking safety from conflicts. Women and girls in rural Africa walk long distances to fetch water or firewood to feed their families. Young girls walk miles to go to school only to walk back home due to menstruation or lack of pads to stay in school. We will be walking this strainous walk to raise money for our causes.
The Migrant Stories Canada shares narratives of 'Immigrants in Canada' and in order to strengthen our compassion, respect, and understanding of people's journeys and experiences while reducing isolation by creating connections in our communities. With this fundraiser the Migrant Stories Canada aims to engage more newcomer communities and increase the exchange of stories between newcomers and our indigenous communities.
The Grace & Nelly Project (G&N) is a grassroots not-for-profit working to empower girls and women in rural communities in Zimbabwe. Our vision is to create a more affordable and sustainable menstrual product while creating employment opportunities for women in rural communities in Zimbabwe. To date we have supplied over 1000 free menstrual pads and kits to girls from 13 rural village and provided menstrual health education to girls and boys from those villages. Supported over 150 women through entrepreneurship and skills training.
