A Tribute to Gary Wright - R2R transcription
Donation protected
Gary Wright receiving his doctorate at University of the Pacific, 1996
All money raised will go to pay for a professional sound engineer to digitally transcribe approximately 60 Lincoln High School (Stockton, CA) choral concerts from reel-to-reel tape and post them to the website www.atributetogarywright.com.
The music contained on these tapes begin in the early 1970s, when Gary first became choir director at Lincoln High School, and continue through the mid-1980s when concerts were recorded on cassette tape.
If we are unable to finance this project, the music on these tapes will be lost. So, the faster we can raise the money, the faster we will be able to transfer the music and upload it to the website for all to enjoy.
If you visit www.atributetogarywright.com now, you will find approximately 30 concerts and recitals that have been uploaded from those recorded on cassette. We think you will find they sound quite good, especially considering many are 30+ years old.
Some of these reel-to-reel tapes are considerably older - almost 50 years of age. If they are not transcribed soon, the metallic substance used for the recordings will dissolve (like many films from the golden age of Hollywood) and be lost forever. We would hate to see this happen, if at all possible to avoid.
Please consider donating. For many people this might seem like a vanity project. But for those of us lucky enough to have sung or played handbells in one of Gary's choirs, and fortunate enough to have been mentored by this very special man and educator, it means recapturing and reliving an important time in our lives.
Thank you for your consideration.
